Description
This has been my baby for the past quarter. At 64 inches tall, it’s definitely the largest oil painting I've ever tackled - and boy was it fun.
The painting III assignment was to create a self portrait - without actually painting one's self. One of the major themes I wanted to express was the connection between a person's identity and their place of origin. I've been fascinated by people's sense of aesthetics and the types of places they've grown up in. For me being constantly surrounded by trees, an enclosed forest was the natural choice. Trees also symbolize for me some of the grand pattern of the natural world. Take a look at blood vessels, nerve endings, branches, rivers, ink spreading on paper, and even cracks in the wall... I don't want to say much more, because I think it'd be more interesting for you all to come to your own conclusions. Psychoanalyze away!
